We (Kimberlee and Nick) have had a shared loved of travel for as long as we’ve known each other. Our very first conversation was about how we had both spent time as volunteers in Ghana. After several years of friendship, a travel seminar to Egypt for school deepened that bond. We returned home and formed a band (like you do when you want to spend more time with someone you like), and before long we were embarking on the journey of life together as a couple.
A few years later, Quintin (born 2013) and Eliza (born 2014) were welcomed into the world. We bought a house, and began “settling” into our new lives.
This is the “American Dream,” right? Two kids, a mortgage, secure jobs, and money to save towards retirement. Yet something about this wasn’t satisfying. Somewhere along the way we forgot the values our relationship had been built upon. We had little time for music. Our trips became more infrequent. Finding time to spend with friends had to be planned out months in advance.
So we’ve decided to change that. Instead of always looking to the future and dreaming about what we’ll do when we retire, we will be pursuing some of these dreams now. We will miss our home and the friendships we’ve made here, and we know life on the road will also bring plenty of challenges. Yet we’re excited to have the privilege and opportunity to get back to some of the core values of who we are – travel, music, friends, time together as a family, and living authentically. We look forward to sharing the story of our journey with you here and hope our paths might cross along the way!
